Medical Imaging Interaction Toolkit Documentation
The Medical Imaging Interaction Toolkit (MITK) is a free, open-source framework for medical image computing, developed at the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ). You can use it in two ways:
- As an application. The MITK Workbench is a ready-to-run program for visualization, segmentation, and registration of CT, MRI, PET, and other DICOM data.
- As a framework. The MITK C++ libraries and plugin system let you extend the Workbench or build your own medical imaging software.
MITK combines ITK and VTK with data management, advanced visualization, and interaction in a single, modular framework.
Getting started
- Use the Workbench. The MITK User Manual covers common tasks such as loading, saving, and navigating data; see MITK Plugin Manuals for the individual tools.
- Develop with MITK. Start with the Build Instructions, then read Starting your MITK Development and the Creating a new MITK project guide. Browse the API reference and consult the CMake FAQ while setting up your project.
License
MITK is released under a BSD-style license, free for both research and commercial use. It is not a certified medical product and must not be used in patient care.
